The history of Bradgate goes back well over 500 years. Lady Jane Grey, great-granddaughter of Henry VII, was born at Bradgate near Leicester in 1534, and at the age of 17, was proclaimed Queen of England. She ruled for only nine days before being imprisoned in the Tower of London.
Alfred Jordan grew up playing around the ruins of Bradgate, always fascinated with stories of adventure in Africa. In 1889 at the age of 17, he set sail for South Africa. He settled in the winelands of the Western Cape and named his family estate Bradgate as a reminder of his early childhood.
More than 350 years have passed since wine was first made in the Cape. Today, Alfred Jordan's great-grandson Gary and his wife Kathy (both University of California at Davis- trained winemakers) make wine in their state-of-the-art cellar in Stellenbosch, the center of the Cape wine industry.
The Bradgate range, dedicated to Alfred Jordan and named after their family estate, combines the soft, fruity accessibility of the New World with the complexity of the classic wine styles, ensuring well-structured wines with a complex concentration of fruit and flavors.
